One of my favorite things to do each year is my Thanksgiving column.
So here we go.
Mountain Dew Baja Blast. Without this tasty beverage it would be almost impossible to get by most days. From having to be at job 1 at 7am, job 2 at 3:30 and job 3 at 6:30 before finally getting home around 9pm, my days are long, but worth it.
I am thankful for said jobs. I am so blessed to be able to teach children of all ages how to improve their computer skills. Working for the Rome City School system has been a blessing and the people that I have met along the way are truly amazing.
I am thankful for the ability to be able to write about sports on a daily basis. Growing up I was laughed at when I told my teachers I wanted to be a broadcaster. Well, here I am making a living writing and broadcasting sports. Not many people get to live out their dreams; I am blessed to be one of those.
For my 10th season as the voice of the Gordon Central Warriors. Yes, I know the team has not been very good as of late, but the players and coaches are some of the best in northwest Georgia. Every time I place the headsets on I am reminded of answers prayers for a little 10 year-old boy.
For my amazing wife who STILL puts up with my football obsession. I may be wrong, but I can’t imagine many wives putting up with losing their husband for 10 Friday’s and 15 Saturday’s every year. She is truly an amazing person.
D.T. my old pickup truck that was traded in this past year. Over the past 10 years I put a lot of mileage on the old Silverado. He had been to Athens over 75 times; numerous road trips up, down and across the county and still purred like a kitten. Whoever has taken ownership of ol’ faithful, I hope they enjoy him as much as I did.
My number one fan, my mother. From literally day one she has been there for the good and bad times. I am so blessed to have another year sitting at the dinner table with her this holiday season.
My kids. There is nothing like seeing their faces when I mention Krispy Kreame or the word ice cream. As they get older these days are sure to be numbered. I pray that I continue to realize how special each and every one of these small moments truly is.
“Guy code”. Despite being almost 40 year-old guy code is as great now as it was when I was a teen. Only the “fellas” can appreciate “Omaha”.
I am thankful of you, the Coosa Valley News readers, advertisers and supporters. Without EVERYONE of you it would be impossible to put food in my family’s belly. I am eternally grateful.
I am thankful I am a Georgia and not a Georgia tech fan, here’s a few reasons why..
Coach – no explanation required
Campus – no explanation required
Coeds – no explanation required
Culture – tickle piles and DragonCon
Facilities – metal troughs anyone?
Team Color – somebody peed in the laundry basket
Team Mascot – a not so mighty insect
Team pre-game activity – tickle pile
Team post-game activity – group therapy with lots of crying
Team meal – Varsity chili dogs
I am thankful for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. These times are crazy. People are crazy. But no matter how hard or great life can be, it is an indescribable special feeling to know that he is always beside me and has my back.
