David Edwin Culp Jr., 70, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026.
David was born on February 23, 1956, at McCall Hospital in Rome Georgia, to David Edwin Culp Sr. and Barbara Jewel Pence Culp. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
David was a proud native son of Lindale Georgia and lived his entire life in Floyd County. David was baptized at First Baptist Church of Lindale, was a 1974 graduate of Pepperell High School, and an Eagle Scout. He spent many happy summers at Camp Sidney Dew, where his Boy Scout journey helped foster a lifelong love of the outdoors and a deep commitment to his community. He cared deeply for those around him and dedicated much of his life to service through his role on the executive board of the Rome Georgia Ducks Unlimited Chapter, where he advocated for wetlands conservation. David’s volunteer efforts earned him multiple Area and District Chairman of the Year awards, as well as the State Chairman’s Award, the highest award given in Georgia. He was also a founding member of the Breakfast Exchange Club of Rome, supported Shriners Hospitals for Children and the Northwest Georgia Council, Scouting America. David was an avid fisherman, spending many days out on lakes, streams and the Gulf both competitively and recreationally fishing. David was a self-employed engineering draftsman and was involved in many building projects in downtown Rome and around the state of Georgia through his work with his own independent small business.
He will be remembered for his witty humor and caring spirit that made him truly loved by all. David had a larger-than-life personality that lit up every room and kept everyone laughing. Always the life of the party, providing good food and music, he was a faithful friend to all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Amber Jenkins Culp of Rome, Georgia; his precious daughters, Alisa Self (Stephen) of Rome, Georgia, and Cheryl Ewell (David) of Cumming, Georgia; and his four cherished grandchildren, Peyton Self, Sawyer Ewell, Davis Ewell, and Caleb Ewell. He is also survived by his siblings, Elizabeth Dunn (Timothy) of Roswell, Mark Culp (Tammy) of Lindale, Robert Culp (Rhonda) of Lindale, many extended family members who held a special place in his life, and some of the most dedicated friends that he considered family.
David was preceded in death by his parents, David Edwin Culp Sr. and Barbara Pence Culp.
His family extends their sincere appreciation and gratitude to everyone who visited, offered comfort, and the love shown toward him and the Culp family during his illness.
Services will be held in his honor and memory at Henderson & Sons Funeral Homes South Chapel on Saturday April 11, 2026. A visitation will begin at 2pm followed by services at 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ducks Unlimited, the Exchange Club of Rome, National Kidney Foundation, or take a child fishing in the outdoors in his memory.
