The Bartow County Sheriff’s Office released a report on Friday regarding a barricade situation at a Pine Ridge Townhome on Iron Belt Court, located off East Iron Belt Road near Cartersville, on Thursday morning. While assisting the U.S. Marshals with a warrant service, deputies made contact with the wanted individual, 28-year-old Amos Kipkorir Chumba, who had an outstanding warrant in Bartow County for failing to comply with the state sexual offender registry.

Chumba reportedly claimed that he had a firearm, prompting deputies to retreat from the residence and wait for the special operations team to arrive. During this time, Chumba also allegedly stated that he possessed a bomb, leading deputies to evacuate the rest of the building for safety reasons.

Once the special operations team entered the residence, they discovered that Chumba had broken through two walls and entered two neighboring apartments. He was ultimately found upstairs in the second neighboring residence. Deputies took him into custody and transported him to jail.

Due to the extensive damage and forced entry into the other townhomes, the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office charged Chumba with two counts of burglary, two counts of criminal damage to property in the second degree, one count of obstructing a law enforcement officer, and one count of making terroristic threats and acts.
