The Rome police department has launched an investigation into an armed robbery at the North Broad Food Mart on North Broad Street.

Reports said that officers were dispatched to the scene around 2:30 a.m. Monday. It was then they spoke with the store clerk who showed surveillance footage of a black male wearing a white beanie, black shirt and blue jeans with holes in them. The suspect was also wearing black gloves and a red mask. Video did show that at one point in the armed robbery, the suspect’s mask fell. Authorities added that the suspect revealed himself to be an older male with a beard.

Police went on to say that the suspect stole close to $1,500 in cash while pointing the gun at the store employee.

The employee also told police that when the suspect left, he fled on foot near Harvey Street.
