Observations after week one of the college football season.

Alabama and Ohio State are really the only two teams that scare me at this point.

Les Miles has a really great defense, but his offense is very offensive.  They had better take Jacksonville State seriously this weekend or Les Miles may learn the true meaning of Death Valley Saturday.  The Gamecocks are a really, really dangerous football team.  If Les makes it out this weekend, he will not survive the full season.

Texas A&M was my biggest surprise last week. I really didn’t see them having any chance of beating UCLA and Josh Rosen. I was wrong.  I’m still not buying the Aggies for the long haul though.

SEC fans need to simmer down. One week doesn’t make, or break, a conference.  The Southeastern Conference is still the giant in all the land.

I think I need to give Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly the instragram account of Jenna Jameson in a few weeks. It worked last week for the Noles.

I hear a lot of folks say they hate rankings this early in the season for the very reasons of last weekend. I think it added to the drama.

I was also wrong about my picks for the college playoffs. Houston is set to make it and will likely cause a few conferences to have a midmajor headache.  The Cougars and Tom Herman are for real folks. The scary part is that he doesn’t even have to recruit more than a 60 mile radius from his office.  He will be coaching a big time program SOON and his paycheck will have several 000000’s behind it.

The Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game was great.  It contained all of what I was hoping for as a Georgia fan.  During the Dawgwalk the players, and Kirby Smart, looked focused and lazered in with their suits and tie.

The Dawgs came out and gave us a breath with an early lead, but the Tar Heels came back and about gave us a nervous breakdown.  However, like any great movie, the good guys came from behind and took home the win.

Game thoughts:  Jacob Eason is as good as advertised. Grayson Lambert is not as bad as advertised.  Nick Chubb is absolutely a walking miracle of God. He also reminds me of the Terminator.   The secondary really missed Rico McCraw in the secondary. Once he gets over his shoulder issues, this team will be even more dangerous.   I loved the way the Dawgs used their tightends. I don’t think I have ever seen three in the game, ever.  UGA is very good, but I still expect to see at least 2 losses this year. However, if they can get past Ole Miss and Tennessee, the DawgNation will start to imagine “peaches falling from the sky.”

Now onto my Potts’ Picks for week 2!

Last week I went 50%, one of my worst weeks ever.  Oh well, it happens. Guess I had better get on a roll or ask my professor for a grading curve. Thankfully its “cupcake” week around the county.
