Stevie Ray Carroll, age 71, passed away on October 12, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, valuable life lessons, and a legacy of hard work, honesty, and love for his family.
He is survived by his children, Steven Carroll (Michelle), Crystal Terry (Jason), and Michael Carroll (Brittany); and stepdaughter, Christy Wright. He was a proud grandfather to Kaylie Irmscher (Zach), Landon Carroll, and Kohen Terry; and step-grandfather to Erin Choate (Brentley) and Laurel Montforte (Matthew). He was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of his granddaughter, Palmer Carroll, due in December, whom he was so looking forward to meeting. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly, along with many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 38 years, Paulette Carroll; his mother, Lucille Nix Carroll; his brother, Danny “Fred” Carroll; his sister, Josie Bailey; and his stepson, Weyman Wright.
A hardworking man with a quiet nature, a quick wit, and strong values, he believed in doing things the right way and treating people fairly. He spent many years working in the carpet industry, where he built lasting friendships and earned the respect of those who worked alongside him. As a leader, he valued honesty, fairness, and integrity, qualities that were evident throughout his life.
Some of his happiest days were spent fishing on the lake with his son, grandsons, and nephews. He was also a devoted Alabama football fan, proudly standing alone in a family full of Georgia Bulldogs. He thoroughly enjoyed the friendly rivalry and never missed an opportunity for a little good-natured teasing. He loved watching the Atlanta Braves, but nothing compared to the joy he found in watching his grandson play baseball throughout the years.
He was a man who always enjoyed having something to work on. It was not uncommon to find him with grease on his hands, fixing something that needed attention. And when there was nothing that needed fixing, he could always be found “piddling” with something. He especially enjoyed sharing his knowledge and teaching his grandson how to work on things, passing along skills and lessons that will be remembered for years to come.
He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and believed in preparing them for life’s challenges. He never hesitated to share his wisdom, offer honest advice, or teach a lesson he felt was important, even when it wasn’t necessarily what they wanted to hear. He believed in hard work, responsibility, and doing what was right, and those values became an important part of the legacy he leaves behind.
Although he was not one to openly express his emotions, those closest to him knew his more sensitive side and never doubted how much he loved them. He took great pride in his family and deeply cherished the years he shared with his beloved wife, Paulette. Her passing left a void in his life, and he missed her dearly.
He was a man of few words, but his words carried meaning. His quiet strength, wit, honesty, and willingness to lend a helping hand earned him the trust and respect of those who knew him.
His legacy will live on through the family he was so proud of, the lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the values he passed down. He leaves behind a family who will carry those lessons forward and remember him in the everyday moments that mattered most to him.
In accordance with their father’s wishes, his children and family will honor his memory privately, and no formal funeral or memorial service will be held. The family is deeply grateful for the prayers, kindness, and support of those who knew and loved him.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel and Crematory, is honored to serve the family of Stevie Ray Carroll.
