The Floyd County Board of Commissioners approved several public safety projects, accepted grant funding for emergency response improvements and took action on county operations during its latest meeting.

One of the largest expenditures approved was a $1,510,310 contract with Vision Development & Construction for the Police Department Shooting Range and Training Center. The project will be funded through the 2023 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST), with no change to the county’s budget required.

Commissioners also approved a $63,150 bid from Southeastern Laundry Equipment Sales for new commercial laundry equipment at the Floyd County Jail. The purchase includes a washer-extractor and a gas drying tumbler intended to support the facility’s laundry operations.

EMA receives federal and private grant funding

The Floyd County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) received approval to move forward with two grants supporting public safety operations and emergency response capabilities.

The U.S. Department of Justice awarded a COPS Technology and Equipment Grant totaling $1,731,500. The funding will be used to upgrade components of the county’s public safety radio network, which began operating in 2012.

EMA also received a $6,500 grant from the Georgia Power Foundation. The money will be used to outfit emergency response trailers to improve the agency’s ability to respond to incidents and support community events.

Additional county business

Commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding with Pirelli through the Rome-Floyd Development Authority.

The board also adopted an ordinance closing an unopened section of right-of-way on Lindsey Road. The action followed a resolution considered during the commission’s Sept. 22 meeting.

Another approved measure authorized an easement for Atlanta Gas Light on Burlington Road. Under the agreement, the county will receive $22,000, with no change to the county budget required.

The commission also approved a three-year contract extension with Mauldin & Jenkins for financial auditing services.

Senator, local resident recognized

During the meeting, commissioners recognized state Sen. Chuck Hufstetler for receiving the ACCG Legislative Service Award for his work involving county government during the 2026 General Session.

The board also recognized Likia Wilson of Boxed Beauty Builds for creating and donating a detailed, handcrafted cardboard replica of the Historic Courthouse.

Proclamations recognize fire prevention and awareness efforts

Commissioners presented proclamations to the Rome-Floyd Fire Department recognizing 50 years of fire prevention and fire education efforts.

Additional proclamations recognized Domestic Violence Awareness and Retired Educators Day.

The actions covered public safety infrastructure, emergency preparedness, county operations and community recognition.
