Steven Lanier Porter, age 75, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Ellis Porter, Jr. and Elaine Lanier Porter, his stepsister, Kim Phillips, his nephew, Jonathan Porter and niece, Amber Porter.

He was always a fierce Bulldog, having been born in Rome, Georgia, on June 5, 1950; proudly graduating from the University of Georgia and cheering loudly until the very end.

Shortly after he received his diploma from East Rome High School in 1968, Steve joined the United States Navy, where he served as both an active-duty serviceman and later a reservist. In 1975, he earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Georgia. Throughout the years, Steve greatly enjoyed his business career, starting at Rome Sign Center, which operated for several years, and later joining Hi-Tech Signs, where he worked until his death.

But most of all, Steve valued spending time with his family. He was an attentive son, devoted husband, involved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.

Steven is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Debbie Wray McGlasson Porter; his daughter, Stephanie Marie Porter Segrest (Jeff); and his son, Andrew Forrest Porter (Hilary). He will be missed by the six grandchildren who adored him: BJ, Bentley, Bronson, Mitchell, Avery and Jackson, as well as three great-grandchildren: Beckham, Lucie, and Kopelyn.

Also mourning him are his brothers, Wayne Porter (Pam), Everett “Flip” Porter (Arlene) and sister, Beth Royals (Jimmy). Additionally, Steve leaves behind aunts Jean Porter and Miriam Hammond, his stepmother, Phyllis Porter Mayfield and other beloved family members. His passing is a great loss to everyone who knew him.

Celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 11, 2026, in the chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel on Saturday from 12:00pm until 1:45pm.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, is honored to serve the family of Steven Lanier Porter.
