Mr. Joe Dean Smith, age 86, of Rome, GA, sadly passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026.
Born on November 27, 1939, in Rome, GA, Joe was the son of the late James Oliver Smith and Dorothy Turner Smith. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his infant son, Thomas Joel Smith, his beloved daughter, Lisa Bannister; his sister, Joann Moore, and his brothers, Bobby Smith and Billy Smith.
Joe was a man who loved the simple things in life. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, and spending time where he felt most at peace. He had a passion for classic cars and was an excellent mechanic, always willing to lend a hand or share what he knew. One of his greatest joys was teaching his son, passing down both his skills and his love for working with his hands.
Joe was a true jack of all trades, but what people will remember most is his personality. He loved to laugh, dance, and tell stories. He had a goofy sense of humor that could make anyone smile and brought light into every room he entered.
He also had his own special way of enjoying everyday places. As his family would say, Joe “loved stayin’ at the Wal-Mart,” finding joy in even the simplest outings.
Above all, Joe loved his family. He cherished his children and grandchildren and looked forward to every family get-together. He also adored his dog, Cooper, who was always close by his side.
Joe will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his laughter, his stories, and the love he shared with everyone around him.
Joe is survived by his loving and adoring wife of 67 years, Mrs. Joann Ruth Smith; his devoted children, Terry Smith (Connie), Sharon Fox (Dave); Timmy Smith (Betty), and Shannon Ross; his sister, Louise Crocker (Jimbo); 13 beloved grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel.
A graveside service will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens at 12:30pm with Douglas Wood officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jayson Harrell, Cole Price, Jacob Smith, Jody Smith, Michael Phillips, Destiny Harrell, and Tatum Worthington.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, is honored to serve the family of Mr. Joe Dean Smith.
