Retired Police Officer Donald Eugene Goss, age 85, of Cedartown, GA, passed away Friday March 27, 2026, at his residence, with his loving family by his side.

Mr. Goss was born January 7, 1941, the son of the late Jett Eugene Goss and the late Mary Frances Roberson Goss. When he was young, Mr. Goss entered the United States Navy to serve his country. After a brief stint in the military, he dedicated his life to serving the community through Law Enforcement. His career with law enforcement was the heart of his dedication to hard work and public service. Mr. Goss retired from the Cedartown Police Department after more than 20 years of faithful service, where he was known as a truly caring police officer, always wiling to lend a hand and go the extra mile for his community.

During his stint in public service, Mr. Goss also served as the Head of Security for Candlestick Park in San Francisco, where he had the honor of escorting and meeting many of the great famous faces of the world, including Marilyn Monroe, baseball legend Willie Mays, and even including a famous escort of the Beatles. Known for his tall stature and stride, Mr. Goss was affectionately known as the “Tall Lieutenant.” Although his tall stride radiated his attention to his public service, he was a gentle and kind man, always walking with a purpose and direction. He was a Christian man of faith and loved the Lord. He was also faithful and dedicated to his family, always making sure they were loved and supported in every endeavor. His family says of him, he always walked with such a stride that they were hardly ever able to keep up with him–but he was always there to guide them along the way.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Goss is preceded in death by several siblings.

Left to cherish Mr. Goss’s memories are his beloved wife, Brenda Goss; loving children, Sharon Goss Shuda, Donald Eugene Goss, Jr., Michael Goss, and Kelly Barfield; siblings, Fay Goss Tarbush, Ronald Joe Goss, Charles Goss, and Annie Goss Gray; grandchildren, Shylee A. McBride, Shawn Michael Jett Hughes, Serenity Dawn Childers, Danielle Goss, Melissa Goss, and Jarad A.
