An inmate at the Floyd County Jail, James Matthew Lawrence, 32 of Rome, is facing additional charges after reports said he hit a jail officer in the face.
Reports said that Lawrence refused to follow commands before striking him in the face with a closed fist. Police stated that the officer suffered a chipped tooth in the attack.
Lawrence is charged with battery against a jail officer, felony obstruction, battery, and unlawful acts of violent in a penal institution.
