An attempt to locate a wanted individual in Summerville unexpectedly resulted in a separate drug-related arrest on Thursday night, according to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were at a residence on Hairlake Road shortly before 8 p.m. on July 18, 2025, trying to serve an active arrest warrant for a man identified as Grant Burkhalter. While canvassing the property, law enforcement encountered a vehicle that led to the arrest of 63-year-old Raleigh Leon Styles.
Deputy Nick Robinson noticed a beige car parked near a camper at on Hairlake Road. The windows were fogged, and a man—later identified as Styles—was seated in the driver’s seat. As other deputies approached the nearby camper in search of Burkhalter, Deputy Robinson engaged Styles and inquired about Burkhalter’s whereabouts.
During the interaction, Styles allegedly attempted to hide an object in the center of the front seat. Upon closer inspection, Deputy Robinson observed a red and black eyeglass case positioned next to a handheld torch-style lighter. When questioned about the case, Styles reportedly acknowledged that it contained illicit materials.
A search of the case allegedly revealed a glass smoking device with residue and a small zip-lock bag holding a white, crystal-like substance. Field tests later confirmed the presence of methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Following the discovery, deputies conducted a probable cause search of Styles and his vehicle—a Buick LeSabre bearing Georgia tag BTT8860. The car, which is registered to Styles, was left at the scene on private property.
Styles was taken into custody by Cpl. Corey Fielding and transported from the location. He is now facing multiple charges, including possession of methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (fentanyl), and possession of drug-related objects.
Despite an extensive search of the property, deputies were unable to locate Grant Burkhalter, the original subject of the warrant. The investigation into his whereabouts remains ongoing.
