Billy Joe Chambers II, 39 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he stole and forged four checks belonging to an elderly person and cashed them for himself.
Reports stated that the checks totaled over $3,500.
The thefts occurred between November 11 and November 21, 2024.
Police said that when they spotted Chambers on Maple Road this week he refused to pull over and instead sped away reaching speeds of over 79 mph while swerving in and out of traffic.
After finally stopping, officers said that they found him in possession of amphetamine.
Chambers is charged with three counts 3rd degree forgery, felony theft by deception, theft by taking, identity fraud, possession of methamphetamine, obstruction, driving on a suspended license, attempting to elude police, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving speeding, contempt of court and exploitation/intimidation of the elderly.
