Michael Gregory Smith, 41 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he imprisoned a woman on Acadia Drive.

Reports said that Smith held the woman down on the bed and strangled her.

He is then accused of refusing to allow her to leave the home while slamming her into the walls and other items around the residence.

Police added that when the victim attempted to call 911 for help, he took the phone away and began to curse at the 911 operator.

When officers arrived, Smith is accused of becoming loud while using insulting and provocative language toward his wife and the police.

Smith is charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment, battery, obstruction, unlawful conduct during a 911 call, two counts obstruction of a person making a 911 call, disorderly conduct and two counts cruelty to children in the 3rd degree.
