Micah Jahari Merritt, 21 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he committed a hit and run and then lied to police during their investigation.
The report said that Merritt was allegedly driving at a high rate of speed while following another car down Turner McCall Blvd and South Broad Street. Merritt then reportedly hit the other car in the rear before driving away without stopping.
Police said that they later located Merritt and his truck and while being questioned he made false statements about being the driver of the truck.
Merrit is charged with hit and run, following too closely and false statements and writings.
