A precautionary lockdown was initiated at all Rome City Schools Friday, and all schools will remain on lockdown for the remainder of the school day. According to school officials, “this lockdown is a precautionary measure as no immediate danger has been noted.”
Information was shared with the Rome Police Department earlier today implying that a student not on site made a threat of violence. Rome Police said , “Because we take all threats seriously, the Criminal Investigation Division began working a case immediately, and Rome City Schools made the decision to implement a lockdown.”
Our School Resource Officers, Uniform Patrol Officers, and our Department will continue working with Rome City Schools staff and administration to promote safe working and learning environments in our schools.
Check back as more becomes available.
