A convicted felon, Justin Wade Dempsey, 43 of Rome, was jailed this week after reports said he failed to send his child to school and he was also found in possession of a gun.
Police stated that Dempsey was pulled over near the intersection of Shorter and Coosawattee Avenues for a window tint violation.
A K9 officer then alerted on the vehicle, which led police to find and seize a rifle.
It was also discovered that Dempsey had a warrant for his arrest for failing to send his child to school. Warrants stated that Dempsey’s 8 year-old child has missed 29 days of school, with 22 unexcused this year.
Dempsey is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and mandatory education of a child.
