Garden Lakes Elementary and Johnson Elementary have been recognized as “PBIS Distinguished Schools” for their exemplary implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This prestigious recognition marks the second consecutive year that both schools have achieved this honor.
PBIS is a proactive approach that establishes behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students to achieve social, emotional, and academic success.
Over 1,400 schools in Georgia and 27,000 nationwide have been trained in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Floyd County Schools adopted PBIS in 2008, and today, 13 out of 15 FCS grade-level schools utilize this positive behavior program.
The “PBIS Distinguished School” recognition aims to highlight schools that exemplify best practices in PBIS implementation. This distinction is based on the tiered training completed by the school and the annual number of discipline referrals. Distinguished schools meet all six criteria on the PBIS rubric.
