Mark Paul Dawson Sr, 30 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he shot a man in the abdomen near the intersection of Tyler Street and Garden Lakes Blvd.
Police added that while taking Dawson into custody, they found him in possession of suspected methamphetamine, and a glass smoking device containing drug residue.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he had to undergo emergency surgery. There are no updates on the condition of the victim.
Dawson is charged with aggravated assault, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug related objects, pointing a gun at another and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
