Lavonus Marquis Allen, 32 of Rome, was jailed this week after reports said he destroyed a police car while being taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol with a child.

Police said that Allen was found with an open container and then admitted to having been driving while intoxicated while a four-year-old child was inside the vehicle.

After being placed in the back of the patrol car, Allen allegedly ripped the plastic cage out of the car.

The traffic stop occurred near the intersection of Reservoir and Ross Streets.

Allen is charged with felony obstruction, interference with government property, DUI, endangering a child while DUI, driving without insurance, driving on a suspended license, and an open container violation.
