All inmates at the Chattooga County Jail have been transferred to the jails around the area, including in Dade and Floyd Counties, after a gas leak earlier this week caused the jail to shut down.

Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader said that the office is working to replace a faulty furnace and another furnace at the aging jail.  The furnaces dated back to the 1980’s when the jail was built.

Plans are for the new furnace to be installed shortly and inmates can be transported back to Chattooga County within the next few days.
