James Rutledge Cato, 49 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he attacked another person with a pocket knife at a home on Black Bluff Road.

Police said that Cato pulled the knife, extended it, and walked toward the victim before making contact.

Police said that Cato proceeded to shove the victim and a witness into wood.

The incident occurred in front of a three-year old child.

While being taken into custody, police added that Cato was found with a bag of methamphetamine and a smoking device.

Cato is charged with aggravated assault, simple battery, cruelty to children in the third degree, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug related objects and probation violation.
