After 36 years, Martha’s Skillet will close for good at the end of this month.

Martha Benton said that after her husband passed away in May it became difficult for her to have the energy to run her county cooking establishment.

Benson, who turns 71 on Halloween, said that the last day for customers to come by and enjoy some of her famous dishes, including her world renown peach cobbler, will be on October 29th.

She added that she was been on the lookout for someone to purchase the property, and maybe continue running a restaurant at 4590 Alabama Highway.

Benson said that the hardest part was telling the employees.  “Some of my workers have been with me for nearly two decades,” she said.

So what will she do with her time? “I plan on enjoying retirement and spending time with my family.”
