The Georgia State Patrol has confirmed that 18 year-old Jeremy Matthew Pereira was killed on Monday night after a tractor trailer crossed a median on Highway 411 and struck his car head on.
Reports said that the tractor trailer was traveling west near mile marker 5 when it struck Pereira’s 2014 Nissan 370Z.
Troopers said that after the Nissan came to a stop it caught on fire. The tractor trailer overturned on its left side and went down an embankment, striking several trees before catching on fire as well.
Pereira, West Newbury, Massachusetts died on scene. A passenger sustained severe burns to his body and was transported to Floyd Medical Center, and later the Augusta Burn Center. The tractor trailer driver suffered lacerations to his face and was also transported to Floyd Medical.
The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with this investigation.
