According to Polk County coroner Norman Smith, Elwin Clyde Tillery, 75, of Rockmart, was killed in a traffic accident on Highway 278 Tuesday.
Reports said that Tillery died on the scene from injuries sustained in the wreck. Police reported that speed and weather were a factor in the collision that occurred around 6 p.m. between Tillery’s gold Cadillac and a Lexus SUV with two people inside per eyewitnesses.
Reports said that the Cadillac was eastbound in the right lane while the Lexus was traveling west in left lane. The Cadillac began to change lanes from the right lane to the left lane and while doing so, the driver lost control. It began to rotate counter clockwise, crossing the grass median and entering into the westbound lanes of travel. The Lexus struck the right side of Cadillac just behind the right front tire at the a pillar.
The driver and passenger in the Lexus, a 39-year-old, and an 8-year-old male passenger from Cedartown, were also transported to an area hospital by Redmond EMS with the extent of their injuries unknown to law enforcement
The GSP is still investigating the accident.
