A driver at the center of a fatal accident has been charged. The Georgia State Patrol issued a statement to WBHF stating that 36-year-old Jonathan Mitchell of Cartersville received eight charges as a result of Sunday’s incidents that killed 53-year-old Myra Turner of Cartersville, due to an accident that occurred on Highway 20 and Roving Road in Cartersville. Mitchel was charged with: homicide by vehicle in the first degree, driving under the influence, failure to yield turning left, improper turn, hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident with death, use of safety belts in the passenger vehicle, and theft by taking.
Mitchell, driving a U-Haul truck, crashed into Turner’s Chevrolet Camaro just after 5:00 PM Sunday afternoon. Mitchell then carjacked another vehicle that had stopped near the scene. He was located and apprehended by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.
Turner’s 49-year-old passenger, Joanna Turner of Cartersville, was injured in the accident and transported to Cartersville Medical Center. Mitchell was also injured and transported to the area hospital. The Georgia State Patrol stated that the accident report is not yet complete.

A fatal car accident killed a 53-year-old Cartersville woman on Sunday afternoon.
According to Georgia State Patrol reports, a two-vehicle crash on Highway 20 at Roving Road occurred at 5:07 PM. A 15-foot U-Haul moving truck was traveling west on Highway 20 approaching its intersection with Roving Road. The other vehicle, a red Chevrolet Camaro, was traveling east on Highway 20, also approaching its intersection with Roving Road.
The male driver of the U-Haul truck made a left turn in the path of the Chevy Camaro and a head-on collision occurred. The female driver of the Camaro, 53-year-old Myra Turner of Cartersville, was pronounced dead on the scene. The female passenger of the Camaro was transported to Cartersville Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. After the crash, the driver of the U-Haul truck carjacked a vehicle that had stopped near the scene. S
hortly after the carjacking, the suspect was located and apprehended by Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputies. The investigation is actively ongoing at this time.
