Floyd County Coroner Gene Proctor said that 58 year-old Debbie Gibson was killed on Wednesday after she was hit by a car and then a tractor-trailer in front of the West Rome Wal-Mart.

Officials stated that Gibson was crossing the road when she was hit by a northbound Nissan Frontier, which knocked her into the southbound lane and into the path of a tractor-trailer, which ran over her.

The Nissan then fled the scene.

58-year old Debbie Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:51 p.m.

Proctor said neither vehicle stopped at the scene.

However, Proctor is quoted to say “Police actually found the first vehicle several miles away from here.  The transfer truck, we don’t believe that he actually knew that he was involved in it because it knocked her under the truck.”

The driver of the Nissan is likely facing charges.
