A 58-year old woman died after being struck by a car and then possibly a tractor-trailer in front of the West Rome Walmart Wednesday night.

According to Floyd County Coroner Gene Proctor, Debbie Ginson was hit by a Nissan Frontier, driven by Erin Horovitz, 34 of Armuchee, as she was crossing the road, the car knocked her into the other lane and into the path of a tractor-trailer.

Police said that Horovitz made a left turn off of shorter Avenue when she struck Gibson. Police then stated that Horovitz continued north on Redmond Circle before she pulled over to dial 911.

Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:51 p.m.

Reports state that neither vehicle stopped at the scene.

“Police actually found the first vehicle several miles away from here,” he said. “The transfer truck, we don’t believe that he actually knew that he was involved in it because it knocked her under the truck.”

The Georgia State Patrol has been conducting a follow-up investigation to determine whether she was hit by a second vehicle, believed to be a tractor-trailer truck. Her body was sent to the Georgia Crime Lab for further investigation.
