I know this is football season, but it would be hard for me not to talk about one of the greatest baseball careers coming to an end this past week.
David “Big Papi” Ortiz walked off the field for the last time after a first round exit in this year’s Major League Baseball playoffs.
However, unlike many vets, his last season was as good, if not better, than most of his others throughout history. Some may argue it is because he plays DH and his total game time is just minutes, but I don’t see that. Think about players who get out and never have a bat hit to them. Does that make them any less of a superstar? Nah.
David Ortiz had one job, and he did it. He did it well. His legacy was cemented in 2004 after helping lead the Boston Red Sox to a World Series title and erasing eight decades of misery for Red Sox faithful.
His late innings heroics only help start his legacy for Boston. Following the Boston Bombings a few y ears ago he made a statement to the crowd and not only showed his love for the fans, but his community with a few choice words.
Papi is a legend. Oh yeah, he is a legend who NEVER tested positive for PED’s.
Four Teams left in the playoffs’ Cleveland, Toronto, Los Angeles and Chicago.
My thoughts on that. No Canadian team should ever win a major American sports title. Cleveland really has turned into Believeland, and if they win the city will be worse than bonkers… and obnoxious. The Dodgers have spent more money than God to win a title. Let’s hope it doesn’t work. That leaves those loveable Cubbies. I don’t think any city in America, other than the previous three is pulling against these guys and the removal of the Curse of the Goat.
If you are a fan of the Atlanta Falcons, it sure is hard not to get your hopes up isn’t it. Remember last year the Birds stated 5-0, and 6-1 before finishing the season 8-8 and watching the playoffs from their couch. Patience grasshoppers.
While sitting at a local eatery enjoying the company of others a Georgia fan made a comment how that hoped Tennessee beat Alabama this weekend. Those that knew me also know that I would most likely pull for Afghanistan University over Alabama. However…
My love for the Georgia Bulldogs supersedes any hatred that I have for the boys in crimson. At the end of the day I will sit back and hope that the team that can help UGA’s chances have more points on the board. I will NEVER saw I hope (insert team name here) wins.
With that being said, a Tennessee loss would put the Dawgs back in a position to play another game in the Dome this season. The old saying “laying in bed with the enemy” really stands out in my mind.
