Calhoun City Schools announced that Mrs. Shelly West has been selected as the System 2017-18 Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. West serves as a 3rd grade math and science teacher at Calhoun Elementary.
She has served on several committees within the school including the leadership team, grade level chair, SACS accreditation team, mentor teacher, and as a co-faculty sponsor of FCA. She has also been involved with the PAGE High School Redesign Initiative focused on cultivating and developing student engagement.
According to Calhoun City Schools, “She (West) is always looking for ways to keep her classroom on the cutting edge of best practices for all learners. “
All school level Teachers of the Year were recognized in a pre-game ceremony at Calhoun High’s Homecoming on Friday, September 16.
Joining West on the field were Missy Wright, Calhoun Primary School Teacher of the Year; Beth Holcomb, Principal; Shelly West, Calhoun Elementary School Teacher of the Year; Dr. Michele Taylor, Superintendent; Jule Medders, Calhoun Middle School Teacher of the Year; Peter Coombe, Principal; and Christina Long, Calhoun High School Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. West will now go on to represent Calhoun City Schools at the state level of competition.
