It’s that time of the year where my friends all gather around the house, order pizza, eat chips and watch the biggest sporting event of the year….
No, it’s not the Super Bowl, it’s WrestleMania weekend.
Name how many times a year that you go get Pizza and hang out with your friends? That’s the best part Wrestlemania. Each year, I hang out with my best friends while watching the show together and talking about older wrestling shows for amusement. For some reason my pals and I always end up discussing late 1980’s, early 1990’s WCW.
Don’t know why, but each of us grew up watching TBS to see Ric Flair, Sting, Doom, Steiner Brothers, Road Warriors, Great Muta, Lex Luger, etc. and that’s the era of wrestling important to us as we grow up into our mid to late 30’s.
Besides Wrestlemania, you might have the NFL Super Bowl, 1 or 2 UFC big events, the NCAA finals games (football and basketball), and maybe the occasional boxing match, other than that, the world lacks big events where you stuff yourself with food while enjoying something on television with friends.
Heck, even my wife (who hates wresting) gets into WrestleMania. It really is a showcase and an entertaining evening.
The event this year is even being featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter in all day break-ins. That should be fun for wrestling ‘haters’.
The Wrestlemania weekend is like no other. Events kicked off on Thursday and will continue until midnight Sunday. It features the Hall of Fame, which this year will include Sting, the Fabulous Freebirds and even Snoop Dog in its “Celebrity Wing”.
Plus, the WWE Network is giving away a free month this week. If you sign up you can see the card, and if you have ever watched the sport of professional wrestling, relive your younger days.
Yes, I know, and understand that professional wrestling is scripted, I refuse to use the word fake, but I will be doing my Potts’ Picks on this year’s card.
