An explosion at Rockmart’s JCG Farms Feed Mill on Highway 101 left one dead and five others injured. Reports said that Justin Deems, 25 of Rockmart, was killed from the blast, which occurred around 2:30 am Sunday, that caused severe damage to the plant.

Beems’ body will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Rockmart Fire Chief Todd Queen said that the explosion caused a partial collapse of the pant.

Queen added that five people were transported by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Four others were transported by Redmond and Floyd EMS to Rome area hospitals. One of those were later transported to a Marietta-area hospital.

The Georgia Fire Marshal’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are investigating the explosion. No word as of Sunday afternoon to what caused the blast to happen.

Highway 101 between Brock and Marquette Road will be closed for most of Sunday due to investigations.
