A high speed chase down Ga 101 in Silver Creek landed 42 year-old Paul Lynn Barton of Rockmart in jail on Wednesday. Reports said that an officer attempted to pull over Barton because his vehicle allegedly did not have a working tag light, but instead of pulling over he sped off. The officer reported that speeds reached up to 100 miles per hour on Rockmart Highway and up to 75 miles per hour on Wax Road. Reports added that Barton drove on the wrong side of the road, passed other cars in no pass zones and failed to stop at a stop sign. Once Barton stopped the officer said that a foot chase ensued before finally being captured by authorities.

The report stated that Barton fought with arresting officers.

During the arrest police also allegedly found suspected methamphetamine.

Barton is charged with two counts of felony obstruction of law enforcement, felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, two counts of speeding in excess of maximum limits, reckless driving, passing in a no pass zone, driving on the wrong side of the road, stop sign violation, driving with a suspended license, no tag light and possession of methamphetamine
