Cycle Tex Inc. in Shannon has been cited by the Occupational and Safety Administration (OSHA) for six serious and two repeated violations, including exposing workers to fall hazards by not having railings on open sided platforms and not providing personal protective equipment to workers that have come in contact with hot equipment. OSHA has proposed a $58,000 fine for the Hermitage Road facility.
OSHA inspected the facility earlier this year after receiving a complaint and found a number of safety violations.

The company was previously cited in 2010.

The repeated citations were for failing to develop a procedure to prevent machinery from starting up during maintenance and servicing and for exposing workers to flying debris from a grinder that was missing a safety guard. The serious violations involve exposing workers to fall hazards by not having railings on open-sided platforms and not providing personal protective equipment to workers that came into contact with hot equipment.

The company has until Friday to contest OSHA`s citations and proposed penalty.

Cycle Tex opened its extrusion facility in Floyd County back in 2003.
