Gordon County Government is urging citizens to stay vigilant against fraudulent emails and phishing scams impersonating local officials.

County officials issue this alert following reports of a recent scam falsely using the name of Zoning Administrator Tony Ross and the Gordon County Planning & Zoning Department to solicit money and fee payments via email.

Residents are reminded that all legitimate electronic communications from Gordon County departments, staff, and elected officials will come only from official email addresses ending in:

@gordoncountyga.gov

Any email claiming to be official business, demanding zoning fees or payments, or requesting personal information that does not originate from gordoncountyga.gov (such as addresses ending in .com, .org, @gmail.com, or @yahoo.com) is illegitimate and should be treated as a scam.

Safety Tips for Residents:

  • Verify the Sender Address: Scammers often use real staff names as the “display name” while using a fraudulent email address. Always inspect the full email address.
  • Do Not Send Payment via Unverified Links: Gordon County does not solicit direct payments through unsolicited, third-party email accounts.
  • Do Not Click Links or Open Attachments: Avoid interacting with unverified or suspicious messages.

Residents who receive suspicious communications regarding zoning or any other county business should not reply. Please report fraudulent emails to [email protected] and delete them immediately. To confirm the validity of any notice or fee regarding zoning, contact the Gordon County Planning & Zoning office directly at 706-879-2175 or visit www.gordoncountyga.gov.
