Sonja Law has officially entered the race for the District 1 seat on the Floyd County Board of Education, bringing with her a commitment to serving families, students and taxpayers throughout the community she proudly calls home.

A graduate of Coosa High School, Law said her decision to run is rooted in a desire to give back to the community that helped shape her life.

“This community has given so much to me throughout my life,” Law said. “I would love the opportunity to give back by serving the students, families and taxpayers of Floyd County.”

Law said her campaign will focus on ensuring that working families have a strong voice in decisions affecting local schools. She specifically wants to advocate for working parents and single mothers who often face challenges balancing work, family responsibilities and their children’s education.

“I want to be a voice for working families and single mothers,” Law said. “Every parent deserves to know their concerns are being heard and that they have a seat at the table when important decisions are being made.”

Professionally, Law works with adults who have disabilities and mental health challenges, a role she said has strengthened her understanding of the importance of support systems, compassion and access to opportunities. She believes those experiences will help her serve students and families from all backgrounds.

If elected, Law said she is committed to working alongside Democrats, Republicans and Independents to find common-ground solutions that benefit students. She believes education should remain focused on children and families rather than politics.

“Our schools are at their best when people come together,” Law said. “I want to work with everyone, regardless of political affiliation, to ensure families have a voice and that our education system is meeting the needs of our students.”

Law also emphasized the importance of fiscal responsibility and transparency in managing taxpayer dollars. She said residents deserve confidence that school resources are being used effectively and efficiently while maintaining a strong educational environment for students.

With deep roots in the community and a passion for service, Law said she hopes to bring a balanced, family-focused perspective to the Floyd County Board of Education while advocating for academic success, responsible spending and open communication with the public.
