Mr. Joe Dan Walker, age 70, of Cedartown, GA, passed away Tuesday September 1, 2026.

What a life, filled with ups and downs, but Joe Dan knew that God was always with him, getting him through all of his life struggles. Joe Dan loved life to its fullest and never gave up on himself or others. He was a survivor for sure. He was in the middle of his brothers and sisters. His family lost their mom when Joe Dan was the age of 6. So, he and his siblings were raised solely by their dad with the help of loving aunts and uncles. Joe Dan worked for several years in Conyers and in Atlanta for various restaurants as a cook, and worked for a while at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Joe Dan struggled with many challenges in his life but he always stayed in touch with his siblings and nieces and nephews, loving them until the end. Joe Dan always knew that God was there for him when things got tough, as they so often did. God would guide him through every struggle. Joe Dan loved fiercely and loyally. He was a fierce advocate for the disenfranchised. In 1996, Joe Dan met his wife and life partner, Jennifer, while serving at The Open Door Community in Atlanta, Georgia. In the community, they served alongside each other in the soup kitchen, clothes closet, and on the streets focusing on Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 25:31-46. They were married April 25, 1998, celebrating 28 years of marriage this year. In 1999, they relocated to Cedartown, Georgia, where they raised their two sons, Stephen and Michael. Since that time, Joe Dan has been a loving and devoted father and husband, standing beside his family and working often seven days a week to provide for them. He enjoyed his work for years at Cedar Springs Nursing and Rehab, and then later for Honda Lock, retiring in December of 2023. After his retirement, Joe Dan compiled his memoirs in hopes that his story of survival will eventually be published and become a source of hope to others. In his free time, he loved to cheer on his sons at their ball games, at times serving as one of their coaches. He served as an elder of First Presbyterian Church in Cedartown, but most recently has been attending church with Jennifer at Beersheba Presbyterian Church in Summerville, Georgia. So many will miss him and we will cherish many memories until we meet again.
