Shane Bryan Crider, 35 of Armuchee, was sentenced to life in prison by Floyd County Superior Court Chief Judge John “Jack” Niedrach this week after he was convicted of molesting a 10 year-old girl.

Crider was arrested September 2025 on charges of child molestation, three counts of sexual battery, aggravated sexual battery and probation violation.

Police said that the molestation occured at a home on Old Summerville Road.

He was also sentenced to 20 years in prison for child molestation and five years for sexual battery of a child under 16, to run concurrently with his life sentence. He will be eligible for parole in 30 years.

Crider was sentenced as a recidivist because on Dec. 16, 2011, he shot and killed Jason Darren Puryear, in what Crider categorized as an accident. Crider, Puryear and a third person were working on a car in a shed on Crider’s property when the other two men left.

Shortly afterwards, Crider heard a noise outside the shed and fired four shots from a .45-caliber pistol into the darkness.

One of the shots hit Puryear from behind and exited his chest. He died later that night. Crider was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by five years’ probation for the shooting.
