Mr. Kimsey “Leon” Lance, age 85, of Rome, GA, sadly passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Lance was born in Rome, GA, on September 26, 1940, and was the son of the late Kimsey Ruben Lance and Martha Irene Lance (formerly Swinford). In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Yvonne Louise Lance and his siblings, Robert Lance, Donald Lance, and Linda Crane.

Leon dedicated his life to Christ in 1970 and remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life. He was a faithful and devoted member of New Bethel Baptist Church for more than 56 years. Leon’s favorite Bible verse was Luke 6:31: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” He not only cherished these words but also spent his life faithfully putting them into practice through the way he treated and cared for others.

Leon was a man who believed in hard work. He was a dedicated farmer who took great pride in working the land and an avid gardener in his spare time, who found joy in watching things grow. For many years, he also worked as a truck driver, earning a reputation as a dependable and hardworking man. Leon was tough as nails and approached life with a strong-willed attitude, never backing down from a challenge.

Above all else, Leon was a family man. His family was his greatest source of pride, and he loved them more than words could ever express. He especially loved children and had a special way of making them laugh. One of Leon’s favorite pastimes was teasing his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. His playful sense of humor became one of the things his family loved most about him.

Survivors include his son, Gary Lance (Kim), Rome; 2 grandsons, Brandon Lance (Gina), Rome, and Jeff Lance (Katie), Silver Creek; 5 great-grandchildren, Anna Claire Lance, Bryant Lance, Ellie Kate Lance, Henley Lance, and Judah Lance; his brothers, Ruben Lance and David Lance; as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held at 12pm on Monday, August 31, 2026, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel. Interment will follow in Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 10am until service time at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel.
