Georgia Highlands College has reached a major milestone, announcing that more than 250,000 community members have been served since the institution was founded more than 50 years ago.
College officials said the achievement reflects decades of providing higher education opportunities across Northwest Georgia and comes as the institution continues to experience growth in enrollment, academic programs and community partnerships.
The milestone was highlighted throughout the summer as part of a series of events that also recognized America’s 250th anniversary. Hundreds of students, employees, alumni and community members participated in Community Impact Day and Accepted Student Day on the Floyd Campus, celebrating the college’s history while welcoming incoming students.
According to the college, more than 250,000 credit hours have been completed by students over the past three academic years, and more than 2,500 graduates have earned degrees during the past several years. Officials also estimate Georgia Highlands College has generated more than $2.5 billion in economic impact throughout its history.
The milestone also received recognition from state and local leaders. Communities across the college’s service area issued official proclamations commemorating the achievement, and Gov. Brian Kemp sent a letter recognizing Georgia Highlands College’s legacy of service and its contributions to higher education in Georgia.
Georgia Highlands College President Dr. Mike Hobbs said the institution is focused not only on celebrating its history but also on preparing for the future.
“We are very proud of the first 250,000 lives we’ve served, and our focus is now on the future,” Hobbs said. “Georgia Highlands College continues to build momentum. From record enrollment and innovative academic programs to transformative partnerships and strategic investments, we are preparing to serve the next 250,000 community members with the same commitment to student success that has defined our institution for more than fifty years.”
Hobbs credited the college’s progress to the support of faculty, staff, alumni, donors, elected officials, business leaders and community partners.
Georgia Highlands College serves students across multiple campuses in Northwest Georgia, offering associate and bachelor’s degree programs designed to prepare graduates for careers in high-demand fields while supporting regional workforce development.
