On Monday evening, July 6th, 2026, Kirk Douglas Owens, 42 of Cedartown was found unresponsive in his cell.
Owens was housed in the Polk County Jail for charges of Public Drunkenness as well as a Probation Violation. Jail Officers and medical staff immediately took life-saving measures like CPR while awaiting EMS.
Mr. Owens was transported to Atrium Health in Polk County where he succumbed to his ailment.
Sheriff Moats and the entire staff of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office extend their sincere, heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Kirk Douglas Owens.
