The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of Deputy Kevin Summerville, who passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Summerville joined the sheriff’s office in May 2021 and served the community as both a jailer and deputy sheriff. During his time with the agency, he earned the respect of fellow deputies and staff for his dedication to public service and his willingness to mentor younger officers.
In April 2025, Summerville was recognized by the Elks Lodge as its Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, an honor highlighting his commitment to the profession.
Sheriff Mitch Ralston said Summerville’s death is a tremendous loss for the agency.”We are all going to miss Kevin,” Ralston said. “He was an excellent employee, a capable peace officer who mentored younger colleagues, and he was a fine individual who was popular among the staff. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
In honor of Deputy Summerville’s service and dedication, Sheriff Ralston has ordered flags at the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office to be flown at half-staff.
