Brenda Faye Amos of Rome, Georgia, died at home in Charlotte, North Carolina, on July 12 after an extended illness. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Brenda was also a devoted Christian and longtime member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Rome and, most recently, East City Church in Charlotte.
Brenda was born on January 30, 1941, in Rome to Margie Louise and Gordon Lee “Bud” Stokes. When she was nine, Brenda was gifted with a baby brother, Randall “Randy” Stokes. Brenda graduated from Pepperell High School. In 1961, while her husband was stationed in England, Brenda gave birth to a daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Francine Adcock. Fourteen years later, Brenda gifted Cindy with a baby brother, David Lee Kelson. The immediate family was complete when Randy and his wife Patty gave Brenda a niece, Alison, and two nephews, Tyler and Clay.
While Brenda was unlucky in romance, she was very lucky through her son to have two amazing grandchildren, Ivey Bregail Oaks and Xander Kelson, whom she loved fiercely. She was also fortunate that her daughter married Alexander Patterson “Pat” McCoy, whose family joyously welcomed her as one of their own.
Brenda worked in various capacities in offices around Rome, most notably at the Rome Housing Authority. She left her beloved Rome for Charlotte in 2014 to be closer to her daughter. Cindy and Pat welcomed Brenda into their home permanently in 2019.
Many people will miss Brenda’s sense of humor, loyalty, and offerings of prayers. Those who will miss her most are Cindy and Pat; David and fiancée Diana Cales; Ivy and mother Kristi Oaks; Xander; Randy; and Toby, Don, and Katie McCoy.
In honor of Brenda’s wishes, the family is accepting donations to assist her son and grandchildren in Florida in attending her memorial and to assist with memorial expenses. To contribute, go to https://www.supportnow.org/brenda-amos.
