Many believed the city of Cave Spring would never again see a school of its own. But that assumption is about to be rewritten. A new public charter school, Northweset Georgia Charter Academy, like the phoenix, has risen from the ashes. The NWGA Charter Academy is a tuition-free, open‑enrollment option for every family in Floyd County, Rome City and Polk County. On Thursday, school officials announced their mascot, the Phoenix.

Launching this fall with grades K–5 and adding one grade level each year until it becomes a full K-12 school, NWGA Charter Academy will operate on the secure, historic campus of the Georgia School for Deaf and will offer free transportation for all students across the region
