The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is renewing its engagement with community stakeholders as plans move forward on the long-anticipated Rome-Cartersville Development Corridor project, now known as the State Route 20 Connector.

Project officials recently reached out to members of the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC), marking the first formal reconnection since the committee last met in 2022. The outreach comes as the project enters its final design stages and prepares for upcoming construction activities.

The State Route 20 Connector is designed to improve transportation between U.S. Highway 411, U.S. Highway 41, and Interstate 75 in Bartow County. According to GDOT, the project will enhance mobility for commuters, local residents, and freight traffic while helping reduce congestion along the existing U.S. 411/State Route 20 corridor.

The project will be delivered in two phases:

  • Phase 1: State Route 20 Connector from U.S. 41 to Interstate 75
  • Phase 2: State Route 20 Connector from U.S. 411 to U.S. 41

As development progresses, GDOT plans to involve the Citizens Advisory Committee through at least two meetings before the end of 2026. The first meeting is expected to take place in person one to two weeks before a public information open house scheduled for July 30. A second meeting will be held virtually following the public event.

Project representatives said CAC members will likely receive public meeting materials in advance of the open house to allow for review and discussion.

In its communication, GDOT asked committee members to confirm by June 9, 2026, whether they wish to remain involved with the advisory group or designate another representative from their organization. Officials are also updating the committee’s contact list and encouraging members to provide any changes to their roles or organizational affiliations.

The State Route 20 Connector has been viewed as a key transportation and economic development project for the Rome-Cartersville region, aimed at improving regional connectivity and supporting future growth throughout northwest Georgia.
