Floyd County Police Department is asking the community to help local students start the upcoming school year prepared by donating classroom supplies through its annual school supply drive.

The collection campaign will continue through July 31, with all donated items benefiting students in Floyd County Schools. Department officials say the effort is designed to help families facing the rising costs of back-to-school shopping while ensuring children have the tools they need to succeed in the classroom.

Public Information Officer Mallory Boatfield said the department hopes the initiative will ease some of the financial pressure many families experience before the school year begins.

The department is accepting new, unopened school supplies for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Requested items include pencils, notebook paper, folders, binders, markers and other classroom essentials.

Donations can be dropped off at two locations: the Floyd County Police Department lobby at 1 Police Plaza or in designated collection boxes at the East Rome Walmart, located at 825 Cartersville Highway SE.

Once the drive concludes, the supplies will be delivered to Floyd County Schools, where school counselors and social workers will distribute them to students and families with the greatest need.

Boatfield said the program also provides an opportunity for officers to strengthen relationships with the community beyond their traditional law enforcement duties.

Community members interested in contributing are encouraged to donate before the July 31 deadline.
