Communities across Polk County are preparing to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary with days filled with parades, live entertainment, fireworks and family-friendly activities as Cedartown and Rockmart host America250 events.

Cedartown’s celebration is set for Saturday, June 27, beginning with a Red, White & Blue Parade through downtown at 10 a.m. The parade has been designated as an official Shriners Parade, bringing Shrine organizations from across Northwest Georgia to participate in the festivities.

Residents are invited to take part in the parade by walking, riding bicycles, motorcycles or driving decorated vehicles. Organizers encourage participants to show their patriotic spirit by wearing red, white and blue attire. There is no cost to participate, although advance registration is requested through the City of Cedartown.

The celebration will continue in the afternoon at Bert Wood Park, where an adult kickball tournament begins at 2 p.m. Teams can register free of charge through Cedartown Recreation.

Throughout the afternoon and evening, attendees can enjoy food trucks, local vendors and lawn games before live music takes center stage. Georgia Red Clay will perform beginning at 7 p.m., followed by a professional fireworks display shortly after sunset. The concert will continue until 10 p.m.

Rockmart will host its Independence celebration on Friday, July 3, at Hilburn Field behind the Rockmart Municipal Complex.

The free event will run from 6 to 10 p.m., with gates opening at 5 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy an evening featuring food trucks, family activities and live performances by The Undecided and Flashback.

The evening will conclude with a fireworks show after dark.

Event organizers remind attendees that outside food, coolers and pets will not be permitted inside the venue.

Both celebrations are part of the nationwide America250 observance commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, offering local residents an opportunity to celebrate the nation’s history close to home.
