A staff member at Cedartown First Methodist Preschool has been removed from duty while authorities investigate an allegation involving possible inappropriate conduct with a child, school officials confirmed this week.
The Cedartown Police Department acknowledged an active investigation but said details cannot be released at this stage.
Families were notified in a letter from the preschool stating that administrators received a report alleging “potential improper conduct by an employee involving a child in the program.” According to the school, the allegation was reported immediately to the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) and to local law enforcement, as required under state regulations. The employee was placed on leave the same day.
Preschool leaders emphasized that the inquiry is still in its early phases and that the school is cooperating fully with investigators. Parents were advised that they may be contacted by police or state officials and were encouraged to assist with the process.
The school also noted that the employee had passed all required background and criminal history checks prior to being hired, and no issues were identified during that screening.
In its letter, the preschool asked families not to speak with the media about the situation.
At this time, no arrest has been made, and investigators have not determined whether any criminal conduct occurred. Authorities caution that early allegations do not establish guilt, and evidence may ultimately show the employee did nothing wrong. This remains an active investigation, and additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Anyone who may have information related to this case is urged to contact the Cedartown Police Department at 770‑748‑4123.
