Rome City Schools has released its tentative Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget, with the district’s actual operating budget projected at approximately $86.9 million — an increase of about $1.5 million from last year’s $85,409,000 budget.

The tentative budget projects $86,955,130 in total operating revenue for the General Fund, which includes local revenue, state funding, city appropriations and federal sources.

The larger overall budget figure of $105,455,130 includes the district’s projected beginning fund balance of $18.5 million carried over from previous years. District officials emphasized that the fund balance does not represent new spending, but rather existing reserves maintained to support long-term financial stability and district operations.

In addition to the General Fund, the tentative budget includes separate funding categories for debt service, capital projects, federal programs, Pre-K funding and school nutrition programs.

Rome City Schools projects ending the 2026-2027 fiscal year with the same $18.5 million fund balance, reflecting what officials describe as a balanced budget approach.

The FY27 budget received a public hearing and first reading during the May Rome City Schools Board of Education meeting. A second reading and final adoption vote are scheduled for the June 16 board meeting.
