Local pediatrician Dr. Raj Miniyar recently welcomed Rome-Floyd County Sheriff’s Office Officer Russ Taylor to his office to personally recognize what he called an extraordinary act of bravery that helped save the life of a young child.

The recognition stems from a harrowing incident in which a 6-year-old was critically injured by a gunshot during a violent gang-related shootout. The child, described as an innocent bystander, was caught in the crossfire as the situation unfolded.

According to accounts of the incident, Officer Taylor did not hesitate. Despite the վտանգ and uncertainty of the scene, he stepped forward, placing himself at risk to reach the injured child and help ensure the child received immediate medical attention.

Dr. Miniyar said the officer’s actions serve as a powerful reminder of the courage and dedication demonstrated by law enforcement officers on a daily basis.

“This is an example of duty rising above obligation,” Miniyar said. “It reflects a level of selfless service that often goes unseen but has a profound impact on the lives of others.”

Miniyar expressed his gratitude not only to Officer Taylor, but to all officers who continue to serve their communities under challenging and often dangerous conditions. He added that moments like this highlight the human side of policing, where quick decisions and personal sacrifice can mean the difference between life and death.

The recognition was intended not only to honor one officer’s heroism, but also to acknowledge the broader commitment and sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel each day.
